Wesley University, Ondo, Ondo State, has approved a 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees for a number of its academic programmes beginning from the 2025/2026 academic session. The reduction, however, does not apply to high-demand professional courses such as Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Law, and select medical and allied health programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Obeka, made the announcement during the institution’s 14th convocation ceremony on Saturday.

According to him, the downward review is part of the university’s efforts to cushion the economic hardship faced by students and parents across the country.

“In response to prevailing economic challenges, and in line with Wesley University’s commitment to affordable, accessible and inclusive education, management has approved a moderate downward review of general school fees for the 2025/2026 academic session,” Obeka said.

He, however, clarified that there would be a slight upward increase in fees for certain specialised programmes to sustain the university’s academic standards and meet stringent accreditation requirements.

“A slight upward adjustment has been applied exclusively to programmes in Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Law, and select medical and allied health disciplines. These adjustments are essential to maintain specialised facilities, faculty expertise, laboratory equipment, clinical training and regulatory benchmarks required for these professional programmes,” he explained.

Obeka emphasised that the new fee structure represents a balanced approach—prioritising affordability while ensuring that academic quality, institutional excellence and global competitiveness remain intact.
