Wellspring University, Benin City, Edo State, is set to graduate its first cohort of 15 doctoral students at its 14th convocation ceremony scheduled for October 23.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Ajayi, disclosed this on Monday during a press conference on the university campus, noting that the institution would also graduate its pioneer set of Public Health students.

Ajayi said a total of 404 students would graduate at the ceremony. The figure comprises 292 first-degree graduates, 93 postgraduate diploma and master’s degree holders, and 15 doctoral graduates.

According to him, the university has equipped the graduating students with intellectual knowledge, entrepreneurial and leadership skills, as well as strong moral values to enable them to make meaningful contributions to society.

He described the graduation of the university’s first doctoral and Public Health students as a significant milestone, particularly given the growing importance of public health expertise in disease prevention, community well-being and the strengthening of healthcare systems.

“We shall be graduating our pioneer set of doctoral and Public Health graduates. This is especially significant at a time when public health expertise is increasingly important to the well-being of communities, the prevention of diseases, and the strengthening of healthcare systems,” he said.

The vice-chancellor expressed confidence that the graduates would apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies to improve health outcomes and address public health challenges in Nigeria and beyond.

He added that the university’s achievements reflected its commitment to expanding access to quality higher education and producing graduates equipped to respond to society’s changing needs.

Ajayi stressed that the institution’s responsibility extended beyond awarding degrees to nurturing well-rounded graduates with entrepreneurial competence, moral discipline, integrity and a strong sense of responsibility to humanity.

“As we celebrate the 14th convocation, I wish to reaffirm that Wellspring University remains committed to its mantra, ‘Impacting Intellect and Morals.’

“Our institutional emphasis on excellence, innovation and transformation reflects our determination to remain responsive to emerging realities in education, research, technology, enterprise and community development,” he said.

He further assured that the university would continue to strengthen its academic programmes, improve teaching and learning, promote research and innovation, deepen professional partnerships and provide an enabling environment for students to realise their potential.

The convocation activities will also feature the induction of students into several professional bodies.
