UNILORIN Medical Student, Shalom Adesina, Wins Gamaliel Onosode Award for Academic Excellence

A medical student of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Shalom Adesina, has been honoured with the prestigious Gamaliel Onosode Award for Academic Excellence in recognition of his outstanding scholastic achievement.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Executive Director of the Gamaliel & Susan Onosode Foundation (GAMSU), Toyin Olanrewaju, and released to journalists on Monday in Lagos.

Olanrewaju noted that Adesina, an alumnus of Rehoboth College, Tanke, Ilorin, earned the honour following his exceptional performance in the 2023/2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), where he scored straight A’s in all subjects.

She explained that the Gamaliel Onosode Award for Academic Excellence was established by the foundation to celebrate brilliance, reward diligence, and motivate young Nigerians to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.

According to Olanrewaju, the award comprises a certificate of recognition and a special gift for both the recipient and his school.

“The award not only highlights individual brilliance but also underscores the recipient’s educational environment. In this case, it stands as a testament to Rehoboth College’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and discipline,” she said.

She added that the recognition serves as a beacon of inspiration to students nationwide, reinforcing the belief that dedication, character, and resilience yield lasting success.

The award ceremony, held at Rehoboth College, was attended by students, teachers, and proud parents who gathered to celebrate Adesina’s remarkable achievement.

For Adesina’s parents, the honour was both emotional and fulfilling. They described the award as a powerful validation of their family values — hard work, faith, and perseverance — and expressed deep gratitude for the recognition of their son’s efforts and determination.
