The University of Ilorin has announced that celebrated public intellectual and former Director of the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission, Prof. Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, will deliver its 50th Anniversary Lecture on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday by the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, who noted that the lecture is one of the major highlights of activities marking the grand finale of UNILORIN’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
According to the statement, the commemorative lecture is scheduled to hold at 10:00 a.m. at the University Auditorium, where Prof. Lumumba is expected to address key national and global issues, continuing his reputation as one of Africa’s most influential voices on governance and accountability.
As part of the anniversary lineup, UNILORIN will also launch a ₦500 billion endowment fund-raising campaign aimed at establishing a world-class Innovation and Transcript Hub to enhance research, academic processing, and institutional development.
The institution further revealed that the celebration will feature recognition awards for distinguished alumni who have excelled in various fields, as well as the premiere of a Nollywood film titled Son of Iron, produced in honour of the milestone anniversary.
UNILORIN’s 50th anniversary activities are expected to draw prominent dignitaries, alumni, and stakeholders from across Nigeria and beyond, underscoring the university’s legacy as one of the nation’s leading academic institutions.
