The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has cautioned students, staff, and external collaborators against filming, producing skits, or creating any video content within its premises without official authorization.

In a statement signed by the Head of the Communication Unit, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the university expressed deep concern over the increasing misuse of its facilities — including lecture halls, hostels, and other academic spaces — for cinematographic and social media productions carried out without prior consent.

According to the management, UNILAG has put in place strict guidelines regulating the use of its environment for recording or creative projects. These measures, it said, are designed to preserve order, safety, and the integrity of the university’s academic and residential settings, as well as to protect its public image.

“All individuals or groups — students, staff, or external collaborators — who intend to record or produce any content on campus must obtain prior approval,” the statement read.
“Requests for approval should be directed to the Communication Unit, 7th Floor, Senate House, UNILAG, Akoka.”

While reaffirming its commitment to supporting creativity and responsible self-expression, the institution emphasized that such activities must comply with its ethical and operational standards.

The university also disclosed that it would intensify monitoring of media and external engagements within its campuses following a recent rise in online videos created by students and influencers that, at times, misrepresented the institution’s image.

“The University encourages creativity and responsible expression; however, such activities must align with established institutional guidelines,” Alaga-Ibraheem reiterated.

UNILAG urged all members of its community and the general public to strictly adhere to the directive in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility.
