The University of Benin (UNIBEN) is set to confer first degrees on 14,083 graduates at its upcoming convocation ceremony scheduled for November 29, 2025, the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, announced on Monday.
Speaking at the 51st and 55th Pre-Convocation and Founder’s Day press conference held at the University Senate Hall in Benin City, Edo State, Prof. Omoregie highlighted that 198 students across various disciplines will graduate with first-class honours.
The Vice-Chancellor also spoke about ongoing efforts to modernise administrative processes, including the digitisation of student records to improve efficiency in handling transcripts and confirmation of academic credentials.
“We will not relent until we achieve 100% seamless operations in examinations and the students’ records system,” he said.
Prof. Omoregie further disclosed the establishment of a Directorate of Examinations and Student Records, led by a newly appointed Professor of Engineering as Director, aimed at enhancing the management of academic records.
In addition, he noted the creation of five new faculties and the approval of 15 new academic programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC), underscoring UNIBEN’s commitment to academic expansion and innovation.
The VC also lauded President Bola Tinubu for launching the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, designed to improve access to funding for tertiary education.
Highlighting postgraduate initiatives, Prof. Omoregie said efforts are underway to upscale enrolment in advanced degree programmes.
“The upgrading of the Postgraduate School to the College of Postgraduate Studies is a strategic move, positioning UNIBEN as a hub for advanced academic training and innovative capacity building,” he stated.
