The University of Ibadan on Monday conferred one of its most prestigious honours on a distinguished alumnus, Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, awarding him an honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree during the institution’s 77th Foundation Day ceremony in Ibadan.

Dr. Adeduntan, who earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Nigeria’s premier university in 1992, was celebrated for his exceptional contributions to the banking, finance and commerce sectors—fields in which he has risen to become one of the nation’s foremost leaders. The university described the recognition as a tribute to his record of professional excellence and to his sustained commitment to national development.

The honour deepens a long-standing relationship between Dr. Adeduntan and the University of Ibadan. In 2020, the institution named him a Most Distinguished Alumnus, acknowledging his exemplary leadership and far-reaching impact across Nigeria’s financial system.

During the conferment, the university leadership highlighted Dr. Adeduntan’s remarkable career journey—from a trained veterinary doctor to a highly regarded financial-sector executive. They praised his innovative leadership, his role in strengthening the nation’s banking industry, and his active involvement in corporate governance and national development initiatives.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Adeduntan expressed profound gratitude to his alma mater, describing the honour as “a powerful reminder of the responsibility that accompanies service, leadership and excellence.” He thanked the University of Ibadan community for laying the foundation for his academic and professional life and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting educational advancement in Nigeria.

The 77th Foundation Day ceremony drew university administrators, academics, alumni, students and guests from across the country. The event celebrated the institution’s legacy as Nigeria’s oldest degree-awarding university and its enduring role in promoting scholarship, innovation and societal progress.

With this honorary doctorate, the University of Ibadan has once again affirmed its tradition of recognising individuals whose achievements reflect its core values of excellence, integrity and service.
