The Students’ Union Electoral Commission of the University of Ibadan (SUECUI) has officially announced the start of the accreditation process ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 Students’ Union election. The exercise runs from Monday, 24th November to Friday, 28th November 2025, and students have been urged to complete their accreditation early to secure their eligibility to vote.

In a special release, SUECUI confirmed that all students must check their official university email accounts for an accreditation invitation. Each student is required to click the link provided and confirm acceptance to complete the process.
The commission reiterated that accreditation is compulsory, noting that only those who successfully complete it will be allowed to cast their votes during the election.

To ensure seamless participation, SUECUI advised students to act promptly and strictly follow the instructions contained in the email. “Get accredited and let your vote decide,” the statement urged, underscoring the importance of active participation in student governance.

As part of measures to enhance transparency and access to information, the commission also created a WhatsApp support and update channel, allowing students to receive real-time information and directly engage with electoral officials.

The announcement was e-signed by Ojuolape Festus Mayowa, Head of SUEC’25 Publicity Sub-Committee, and Kilanko Timileyin Joshua, Head of SUEC’25 Logistics Sub-Committee. Both officials provided contact information for students who may require clarification or assistance.

This accreditation phase comes at a time of renewed advocacy for greater student involvement in campus governance. UI’s Students’ Union election is widely regarded as one of the most influential in the country, and the commission has assured that technical support will be available throughout the period to address any challenges that may arise.

Student leaders have encouraged their peers to avoid delays, warning that late accreditation could lead to avoidable technical issues. They maintained that timely compliance is crucial to preserving the integrity and smooth conduct of the election.

With accreditation now underway, the University of Ibadan has officially opened the first chapter of its 2025 student democratic process — setting the stage for an inclusive, transparent, and participatory election season.
