President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of new appointments and tenure renewals across several strategic education agencies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Library of Nigeria.

According to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the appointments are aimed at strengthening leadership within critical institutions and ensuring continuity in ongoing reforms across the country’s education sector.

Among the key decisions, Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed as Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO, while the council’s current Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, will continue to serve in his position.

In another appointment, Professor Babatunde Salako was named Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The President also renewed the tenure of the board’s Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M. Bugaje, granting him a second and final five-year term in office.

Beyond the regulatory agencies, the President approved the appointment of Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa as the new Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, following the completion of the tenure of the institution’s pioneer rector. His appointment will run for a single five-year term.

Meanwhile, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has been reappointed as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term. She was first appointed in 2021 and has led several initiatives aimed at modernising the nation’s library system.

During her tenure, the National Library has introduced major digital initiatives such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library, while also advancing efforts to complete the institution’s permanent headquarters in Abuja.

The presidency noted that the fresh appointments and tenure renewals are intended to sustain ongoing reforms, strengthen institutional capacity, and improve service delivery across Nigeria’s education ecosystem.
