In a major step toward strengthening education infrastructure and promoting academic excellence, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has earmarked ₦7.4 billion for infrastructural development at the Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit.
The Chairman of TETFund’s Board of Trustees, Rt. Hon. Aminu Masari, disclosed this during the inauguration of the newly constructed ₦1.3 billion Administrative Block and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at the institution in Nsit Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Masari, a former Governor of Katsina State, revealed that ₦6.9 billion of the total allocation has already been accessed, with a remaining ₦462.9 million largely committed to ongoing projects.
“The total cost of the projects commissioned today is ₦1,391,116,511.32. Since the inception of TETFund’s interventions at this College, the Fund has allocated ₦7,388,131,247.96 for infrastructure-related projects alone,” Masari said.
He emphasized that the new projects reflect TETFund’s commitment to making Nigerian higher institutions globally competitive through modern facilities and digital transformation.
“For us at TETFund, these projects signify progress and our alignment with the vision of ensuring our institutions remain relevant in this era of digital advancement and artificial intelligence,” he noted.
“We remain committed to supporting tertiary institutions with tools that drive knowledge creation, research, teacher training, entrepreneurship, and skill development.”
Representing Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, commended TETFund for its continuous interventions in the state’s educational institutions.
“What we see today at Akwa Ibom State University and here at the College of Education are strong testaments to TETFund’s impact. This aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and our state’s ARISE Agenda aimed at transforming education and improving lives,” he said.
The Provost of the College, Prof. Daniel Udo, expressed appreciation to TETFund for its consistent support, urging the agency to sustain the collaboration to enable the College reach greater heights.
Project contractor Ms. Jennifer Igwe of Yusal Teleview Nigeria Ltd explained that the newly commissioned Administrative Building features three suspended floors, 65 offices, four computer laboratories, and a well-equipped conference hall.
The ceremony coincided with the institution’s 8th to 13th combined convocation ceremonies, attended by dignitaries including the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono (represented by Mr. Babatunde Oladije), former Senator Ita Enang, and members of the College management team.
