The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University, Jalingo branch, has issued a final 14-day ultimatum to the Taraba State Government to implement outstanding provisions of the 2025 agreement reached between the Federal Government and the union.

The union warned that it may resort to lawful measures to protect the interests of its members if the outstanding issues are not resolved before the expiration of the ultimatum.

The final notice, which takes effect from September 14 to September 28, 2026, was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of ASUU-TSU, Dr Joshua Garba Mbave, and issued to journalists.

The union said several key provisions of the FGN/ASUU 2025 Agreement remained unimplemented by the state government and required urgent attention.

While acknowledging the state government’s commitment to industrial harmony and dialogue, ASUU said concrete steps were needed to ensure full implementation of the outstanding provisions.

“While we acknowledge the Government’s commitment to industrial harmony and dialogue, we wish to note that some key provisions of the Agreement remain outstanding and require urgent attention,” the union said.

ASUU-TSU also commended the Taraba State Government for its efforts towards addressing issues affecting the university and implementing the agreement.

“Consequently, ASUU-TSU issues a final 14-day notice effective from 14th September, 2026, to 28th September, 2026, urging the government to take concrete steps toward full implementation of the outstanding provisions,” the statement said.

The union stressed that it remained committed to peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue but warned that it could consider lawful measures if the issues remained unresolved after the deadline.

“While we urge all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at maintaining a stable and productive academic environment at Taraba State University, we hope for prompt action to sustain stability and uninterrupted academic activities at the University,” it added.

The latest ultimatum follows an earlier 14-day notice issued by the ASUU-TSU branch on August 13, 2026, in which the union called on Governor Agbu Kefas and the state government to fully implement the agreement or face industrial action.

The earlier ultimatum expired on August 26 without what the union considered concrete and verifiable action from the government.

However, ASUU-TSU did not embark on industrial action at the time because the university’s combined convocation ceremony was scheduled within the period.

With the new ultimatum now in effect, the union is awaiting action from the state government before the September 28 deadline.
