St. Gregory’s, Welkins Students Win ₦5m Each at 2025 Cowbellpedia Mathematics Competition

Two Nigerian students have emerged champions of the 2025 **Cowbellpedia Secondary Schools Mathematics Quiz Competition**, clinching the star prizes in Lagos.

Kenechukwu Azuike of **St. Gregory’s College, Lagos**, won the **senior school category**, while Peace Adewole of **Welkins International School, Ota, Ogun State**, emerged winner of the **junior category**. Both winners received **₦5 million each** and an **all-expense-paid educational trip to Kenya**. Their schools were also presented with projectors in recognition of their achievement.

The competition, sponsored by **Promasidor Nigeria Limited**, makers of Cowbell Milk, began in 1998 as the **National Secondary School Mathematics Competition (NASSMAC)** before being rebranded as Cowbellpedia. It is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most prestigious STEM initiatives, designed to inspire interest in mathematics and prepare students for future opportunities.

At the grand finale, the Managing Director of Promasidor Nigeria, **Francois Gillet**, praised the students for their brilliance, describing mathematics as a key driver of innovation and national development. He assured that the company would continue investing in STEM education to empower Nigerian youths.

Marketing Director, **Adebola Williams**, disclosed that this year’s edition lasted **14 weeks**, starting with a computer-based test (CBT) involving over **5,000 students aged 11 to 17**, before narrowing down to the eight finalists.

In addition to the star winners, other top performers were rewarded. In the **senior category**, Fopefoluwa Adegboye won second place with ₦3 million, Prince Orji came third with ₦2 million, while Lyon Awhaisoba took fourth with ₦500,000. In the **junior category**, Haruna Salvin, Onyema Alexis, and Anyaeji Arthur secured second, third, and fourth places with ₦3 million, ₦2 million, and ₦500,000, respectively.

Teachers of the two overall winners, **Mr. Bayode Samuel** (senior) and **Mr. Stephen Egbeyemi** (junior), each received **₦1 million and a laptop**, while two parents also walked away with **₦500,000 each** for excelling in a special quiz segment.

Quizmaster and media personality, **Ebuka Obi-Uchendu**, commended the finalists for their speed and resilience, noting that the competition reflected a steady improvement in students’ mastery of mathematics compared to previous editions. He encouraged participants to sustain their dedication to academic excellence.
