SOKOTO — The Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has strengthened its classroom monitoring and supervision framework as part of renewed efforts to improve teaching quality and learning outcomes across schools in the state.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, represented by the Director of Administration, Abubakar Umar Salame, made this known during the Week 9, Day 1 briefing session of the ongoing school supervision exercise held at Government Girls Day Secondary School (GGDSS), Yahaya Abdulkarim, which commenced at 7:28 a.m.
In his address, Salame urged all monitoring teams to conduct direct classroom assessments, engage with students, inspect lesson notes and notebooks, and evaluate learners’ comprehension levels across primary, junior, and senior secondary schools.
“Effective supervision is essential for achieving improved academic outcomes. We must ensure that our teachers are teaching effectively and that our students are truly learning,” Salame said.
Monitoring Teams Visit Schools Across the State
As part of the day’s activities, the Director of Examination Matters, Abubakar Abdullahi, led a special monitoring team to several schools, including Bimasa Primary School, JSS Bimasa, GDSS Tureta, GDSS Dange, GDSS Shuni, and GDSS Kwannawa.
The teams interacted with teachers and students to evaluate classroom engagement, teaching methodologies, and general academic performance — all aimed at raising educational standards across Sokoto State.
Top Education Stakeholders Attend
The exercise was attended by several senior education officials and stakeholders, including the former Accountant General and Commissioner for Finance, Hajiya Aishatu Muhammad Binji; former Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Aishatu Umar Hassan; Director of Quality Assurance (Arabic Board), Gbemisola Yusuff; Education Secretary of Dange Shuni, Muhammad Sani Usman; and Muhammad C. Muhammad.
Commitment to Accountability and Teacher Development
Reaffirming its dedication to educational excellence, the Ministry pledged to sustain continuous school supervision, teacher training, and performance tracking to ensure that every child in Sokoto State has access to quality and inclusive education.
“Our goal is not just to monitor but to mentor — to ensure that our schools are truly delivering value to learners,” the Ministry stated.
