The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has hosted the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Oba (Dr.) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, at the Lagos House in Ikeja ahead of his investiture as the sixth Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).
Sanwo-Olu disclosed the development through a post on his official social media platform, where he welcomed the traditional ruler and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening the leadership and growth of the university.
According to the governor, the appointment of the Alara of Ilara as Chancellor is expected to bring valuable leadership experience and strategic direction to the institution. He noted that the monarch’s wealth of knowledge and exposure would contribute significantly to the continued development of LASU.
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence that Oba Ogunsanwo would play an important role in advancing the university’s academic excellence and institutional reputation.
“His leadership and experience will add real value to the continued growth of Lagos State University,” the governor said while wishing the monarch success in his new role.
The office of Chancellor in Nigerian universities is largely ceremonial but holds significant prestige, as the occupant serves as the ceremonial head of the institution and acts as an ambassador for its values, traditions, and public image.
Oba Ogunsanwo’s appointment as the sixth Chancellor follows the completion of the tenure of the university’s previous Chancellor. His investiture marks a new phase in the governance and institutional leadership of LASU, one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities.
Established in 1983, Lagos State University is a major public institution located in Ojo, Lagos State, with thousands of students enrolled across various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
