Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University (LASU), has approved the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, as the sixth Chancellor of the institution.
The appointment comes on the heels of the completion of the tenure of the immediate past Chancellor, Gbolahan Elias, whose stewardship the university described as meritorious and marked by dignity. Both the Lagos State Government and the university community conveyed appreciation for his service and contributions during his time in office.
University authorities disclosed that the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), which vests in the Visitor the power to appoint a Chancellor for the institution.
As Chancellor, the Alara of Ilara will serve a single five-year term commencing February 13, 2026, with the possibility of renewal for a second term. The role, largely ceremonial but symbolically significant, includes advisory responsibilities and the promotion of the university’s values, heritage, and public standing.
The Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor extended their congratulations to the new Chancellor, expressing confidence that his leadership stature and wealth of experience will further strengthen LASU’s institutional growth and help advance its academic and developmental objectives.
