Royal Comprehensive High School, Modakeke, has reinforced its reputation for academic excellence as one of its alumni, Engr. Olubunmi Covenant Peace, emerged as the Best Graduating Student of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) during the 2025 Convocation Ceremony, recording an outstanding CGPA of 4.90 out of 5.00.

Peace’s academic journey began at the Royal Group of Schools, where he distinguished himself as the overall Best WASSCE Result holder in Modakeke and its environs in 2018. His culture of excellence followed him to UNILAG, where he dominated his department and faculty, winning no fewer than ten academic awards throughout his undergraduate programme.

Stakeholders in Modakeke have described the feat as a reflection of the strong academic foundation provided by Royal Comprehensive High School. Speaking with Nigeria Education News, a parent, Mrs. Fatima Ahmed, said the achievement demonstrates the school’s commitment to nurturing talent and promoting excellence.

“This is a testament to the school’s dedication to grooming students for global relevance,” she said.

An education expert, Dr. Moses Adeyemo, also commended the school, noting that its emphasis on a well-rounded education has translated into measurable outcomes.

“The school’s focus on discipline and academic depth has clearly paid off, as seen in Peace’s remarkable success,” Adeyemo stated.

The Principal of Royal Comprehensive High School, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Ogunleye, attributed the milestone to the institution’s rigorous academic programmes and the commitment of its teaching staff.

“We are proud of Engr. Peace’s achievement and hope it inspires our current students to pursue excellence with determination,” she said.

Peace’s emergence as UNILAG Engineering best graduate has brought pride to his family, school and the Modakeke community. His mother, Mrs. Toyin Olubunmi, expressed delight at her son’s accomplishment.

“We are thrilled to see our son excel at this level and bring honour to his roots,” she said.

Speaking on his success, Engr. Peace credited hard work, consistency and the support of his family and teachers for his academic rise.

“I am deeply grateful to Royal Comprehensive High School for laying a solid foundation for me. That background shaped my discipline and passion for excellence,” he said.
