In a statement issued by its Corporate Affairs Directorate, the university described as fictitious a document in circulation suggesting that the institution had altered its school fees payment schedule and adjusted the resumption date for returning students for the Second Semester of the 2025/2026 academic session.

The purported document reportedly claimed that students who failed to complete full payment of their 2025/2026 academic session fees by Friday, 13 February 2026, would be required to proceed on vacation and resume on Friday, 27 February 2026. The management categorically refuted the claim, stressing that no such directive was issued.

Clarifying its position, the university reaffirmed that its long-standing instalment payment structure remains unchanged. Under the policy, 40 per cent of tuition is payable at the resumption of the first semester, 20 per cent before first semester examinations, and the remaining 40 per cent at the resumption of the second semester — contrary to the false claim that full payment must be made before second semester examinations.

The management explained that the instalment framework was introduced over a decade ago to ease financial pressure on parents and guardians. It emphasised that the policy currently being enforced is not new but a continuation of an established practice. As a private institution, the university noted, it does not receive government subventions or external funding and relies primarily on tuition fees to meet its statutory obligations and sustain essential services.

Commenting on the issue, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, said while the university maintains clear and structured payment guidelines, it remains sensitive to individual financial circumstances.

“We still oblige parents who request for extension on an individual basis,” he stated, adding that the institution has implemented measures aimed at reducing financial strain on families.

Professor Akindele highlighted several scholarship schemes available at the university, including awards for academic excellence, sports achievements and outstanding performance in debates. He also disclosed that the institution partners with philanthropists to provide support for indigent students and offers educational grants to students whose parents are members, workers or ministers of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
