The growing complexities of raising children in today’s digital world took centre stage at the 27th valedictory service and graduation ceremony of Jextoban Secondary School, Ibafo, Ogun State, where school leaders, parents, and education stakeholders called for deeper collaboration between families and institutions to shape morally upright, well-rounded individuals.
In his address to the gathering, **Chairman of the Board of Governors**, *Mr. Emmanuel Ojo*, underscored the shared responsibility of homes and schools in raising children with strong character and values.
“Child upbringing in this digital age requires intentional cooperation between parents and schools. When both parties align on core values, we prevent working at cross purposes,” he said.
Ojo emphasised that while schools play a pivotal support role, the foundation must begin at home.
“If our nation is to be upright, the process must start from families, extend to schools, and be reinforced by religious institutions. I’m proud to say our students are a reflection of disciplined, value-driven home training—and we’re grateful for the incredible parental support we've enjoyed.”
He lauded the graduating class for their comportment and encouraged them to remain resilient in the face of the real world’s trials.
“You’re stepping into a world full of challenges. But if you hold fast to the virtues instilled in you at Jextoban—focus, faith, integrity—you will thrive. Identify and develop your God-given talents. Never write yourself off. Trials are stepping stones, not roadblocks.”
He further urged them to be wary of negative peer influence and serve as torchbearers of positive change.
“Let the God factor guide you. Watch the company you keep. Remember the family you come from and the school that shaped you.”
### **Values as Compass for Life**
In her charge to the graduating students, **Proprietress Adunola Ojo** reminded them of the moral foundation upon which Jextoban is built.
“You have been nurtured in values of integrity, self-discipline, fairness, tolerance, and sound moral judgement. Let these guide you wherever life takes you,” she said.
The highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of **Abegunde Elizabeth** as the **best graduating student and valedictorian**. In her emotional speech, she expressed gratitude to the school for its holistic approach to education.
“Jextoban is more than a school—it is a God-fearing community that nurtures both intellect and spirit. I’ve excelled academically, especially in science and external competitions, but what I value most is the character-building experience.”
### **Beyond Academics: Schools as Character Forges**
Delivering the keynote address, **former Managing Director of Ecobank Nigeria**, *Patrick Akinwuntan*, made a compelling case for a redefinition of education to include strong moral and social development.
“Education is not just about math or science. Schools are the crucibles where values like integrity, compassion, and humility are forged. That is the foundation of true knowledge.”
He called on parents to reclaim their pivotal role in shaping responsible citizens, warning that society bears the consequences when children lack proper guidance.
“Our children don’t just belong to families—they belong to the nation and humanity. Their actions have ripple effects on us all.”
Akinwuntan also shared what he termed a “blueprint for success,” grounded in **relationships, humility, and service**.
“Success is not wealth or position; it’s measured by your impact on others. Light as many candles as you can—it never dims your own. Stay humble. Be grateful to those who supported your journey, and above all, never forget to thank God.”
He urged the graduating students to pursue their dreams with courage, reminding them that each life has a divine purpose.
“God has crafted a plan for each of you. Move forward with boldness, humility, and purpose. Serve others, uphold your values, and define success not by what you have, but by what you give.”
