The **Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State-Owned Universities (COPSUN)** has expressed deep concern over the possibility of another strike by the **Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)** and urged the Federal Government to take urgent action to avert a fresh disruption in the university system.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its **69th meeting** held in Abuja, the pro-chancellors, led by Acting Chairman **Prof. Ayodeji Omole**, warned that Nigerian universities are still struggling to recover from the last prolonged strike and cannot endure another round of industrial action.

> “The nation cannot afford another round of industrial action in the university system as the universities are yet to fully recover from the disruptions of the last crisis,” the communiqué stated.

The concern reflects widespread fears among education stakeholders that another ASUU strike could further destabilize academic calendars, worsen student frustration, and deepen the challenges already facing higher institutions.

Meanwhile, ASUU has continued to insist on the **implementation of the renegotiated 2009 FG-ASUU agreement**, which covers salaries, conditions of service, improved funding for universities, institutional autonomy, and reforms of the **National Universities Commission (NUC) Act**. The union recently staged **nationwide protests** to press home its demands.

COPSUN’s call comes as pressure mounts on the government to find a lasting resolution to recurring industrial disputes in the education sector, which have repeatedly disrupted learning and eroded confidence in Nigeria’s university system.
