The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has expressed dissatisfaction with what it described as the slow pace of efforts to secure the release of teachers and pupils abducted during a recent attack in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the association condemned the kidnapping and called on the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to intensify efforts toward the immediate rescue of the victims.
The statement was jointly signed by the National President of NAPPS, Samira Jibir, and the National Secretary, Kayode Adeyemi.
Describing the abduction as a barbaric act and a grave threat to education, the association said it stands in solidarity with the affected families, schools and communities during the difficult period.
NAPPS urged authorities to act swiftly and decisively to secure the safe return of the kidnapped teachers and pupils, stressing that prolonged captivity could further heighten anxiety among parents, learners and education stakeholders across the country.
The association also commended its members in the Ogbomoso district of Oyo State for their solidarity actions, including the temporary closure of schools and the organisation of prayer sessions for the victims' safe release.
According to NAPPS, the measures complement ongoing engagements with government officials, security agencies and other stakeholders aimed at facilitating the rescue of those still in captivity.
The association reiterated its commitment to pursuing lawful advocacy and constructive engagement to promote the safety and security of schoolchildren nationwide.
It further called for stronger security measures around schools and learning environments, warning that recurring attacks on educational institutions could undermine access to quality education and threaten the future of thousands of Nigerian children.
NAPPS urged governments at all levels to prioritise the protection of learners, teachers and educational facilities while implementing sustainable strategies to curb insecurity and restore public confidence in the nation's education system.
The association pledged to continue consultations with relevant stakeholders until the abducted teachers and pupils are safely reunited with their families.
