A graduate of the University of Ilesa (UNILESA) has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force after staging a protest at the institution’s Senate Building over delays in his mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The graduate, identified as Temitope, who studied Geography at the institution, allegedly picketed the university’s administrative complex while demanding an explanation regarding the delay in his NYSC mobilisation process. The protest, which took place at the university’s Senate Building, drew the attention of campus authorities and security personnel.
According to reports, the protest followed a prolonged period of uncertainty regarding the graduate’s mobilisation status for the mandatory national service scheme. Like many Nigerian graduates, Temitope had expected to be included in the NYSC mobilisation list shortly after completing his academic programme. However, delays in the process reportedly left him frustrated, prompting him to take direct action.
Sources familiar with the incident indicated that the protest was carried out peacefully but attracted concern among university authorities due to its location within the administrative hub of the institution. Security operatives were subsequently alerted, leading to the intervention of police officers who later took the graduate into custody.
