The Vice-Chancellor, Salisu Ogbo Usman, announced the initiative during an Expanded Security Stakeholders' Meeting, which brought together security agencies, traditional rulers, university management, and representatives of the host community to review strategies for improving safety within and around the institution.
Prof. Usman said the committee would identify, counsel and rehabilitate students involved in cult-related and other anti-social activities, offering them an opportunity to renounce unlawful associations and embrace responsible conduct.
He, however, warned that students who refuse to abandon criminal activities would face the full weight of the law.
University deploys patrol vehicles to tackle cultism
As part of efforts to strengthen campus security, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the university had procured two patrol vehicles to support security operations.
According to him, one of the vehicles has been assigned to the Joint Security and Anti-Cultism Squad, while the other will be deployed by the university's Security Patrol Team to enhance surveillance across the campus and neighbouring communities.
He reaffirmed the institution's commitment to working closely with security agencies, traditional institutions and other stakeholders to sustain peace and ensure a conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.
PAAU reconstitutes disciplinary committees
Prof. Usman also revealed that the University Management Committee, at its 403rd meeting, approved the reconstitution of the Students' Disciplinary Committee and the Examination Misconduct Committee to strengthen enforcement of the university's rules and regulations.
He described the move as part of broader efforts to promote discipline, academic integrity and responsible conduct among students.
VC dismisses viral cultism video
The Vice-Chancellor dismissed a viral social media video alleging cult activities at the university, describing the claims as false and misleading.
He clarified that the incident captured in the video neither occurred on the university campus nor anywhere in Kogi State, urging members of the public to disregard the report.
Prof. Usman reassured students, parents and guardians that the university remains committed to protecting lives and property through sustained collaboration with security agencies.
He also appreciated the support of Ahmed Usman Ododo for strengthening the institution's security architecture and acknowledged the contributions of former governor Yahaya Adoza Bello towards maintaining peace and stability on campus.
In their separate remarks, the Shaibu Okolo and the Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area, John Urah Ikani, commended the university management for its proactive security initiatives and pledged continued support for efforts aimed at safeguarding the university community.
The meeting was attended by heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders, who unanimously reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the university's drive to maintain a secure environment for academic activities.
