The management of Oyo State College of Nursing, Eleyele has categorically dismissed as false a viral report alleging that a kidnapping incident occurred at its Kishi campus, describing the claim as baseless and misleading.
In an official statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, the Provost, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, clarified that no such incident took place within the institution. She stated that management immediately initiated internal checks upon learning of the rumour and found no evidence to substantiate the allegation.
According to the statement, the college conducted a comprehensive review and verified the situation with campus security personnel and other relevant authorities. The outcome, the Provost noted, confirmed that the purported kidnapping report was entirely unfounded. She reaffirmed that the safety and welfare of students and staff remain the institution’s top priority.
Management described the circulating report as a dangerous piece of misinformation capable of generating panic, disrupting academic activities, and causing emotional distress among parents and students. It warned that the spread of unverified claims, particularly in a sensitive academic environment, could erode public trust and destabilise the learning atmosphere.
As part of proactive measures, the college disclosed that relevant security apparatus had been engaged to trace the origin of the rumour. Surveillance and monitoring systems across the campus have also been strengthened to prevent similar incidents of misinformation. These steps, the management explained, are both corrective and preventive, aimed at reinforcing campus security communication channels.
The institution further revealed ongoing collaboration with appropriate security agencies to maintain vigilance within and around the campus. Existing safety protocols have reportedly been reviewed and enhanced to reassure stakeholders of the college’s continued commitment to a secure environment.
Parents and guardians were urged to remain calm and refrain from reacting to unverified information circulating on social media and informal platforms. The management advised stakeholders to rely strictly on the institution’s official communication channels for accurate updates on campus-related matters.
Findings by The Nigeria Education News indicate that the rumour initially sparked concern among some parents and students before the official clarification was released. However, sources within the college confirmed that academic and clinical activities have continued uninterrupted, with students attending lectures and training sessions as scheduled.
The newspaper has also reached out to the College’s Public Relations Officer for additional comments regarding efforts to identify the source of the misinformation. While a detailed response was still being awaited at the time of filing this report, management assured that further updates would be communicated as investigations progress.
Reaffirming its stance, the institution pledged to maintain a secure, stable, and conducive environment for learning and professional training, stressing that it would not relent in safeguarding its community or countering false narratives capable of damaging its reputation.
