The Provost of the Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences, Dr Gbonjubola Owolabi, has urged students of the institution to uphold the ethics and values of the nursing profession and shun all forms of misconduct capable of undermining their academic progress and professional development.

Owolabi gave the charge on Monday during a congress with students held at the college premises in Eleyele, Ibadan.

She stressed that nursing is a profession that demands discipline, integrity, dedication, compassion and a strong sense of responsibility, urging students to begin demonstrating these qualities throughout their training.

The Provost specifically warned students against laziness, improper dressing, indiscipline and negative attitudes towards their academic responsibilities.

She said the college would not tolerate conduct capable of tarnishing its image or compromising the standards of the nursing profession.

Owolabi further warned that students found engaging in misconduct would face the appropriate disciplinary procedures, which could include suspension, expulsion or other sanctions depending on the nature and severity of the offence.

She urged the students to be responsible ambassadors of their families and the college, advising them to take their studies seriously, attend lectures regularly, dress appropriately and conduct themselves in a manner befitting students of a professional institution.

Other lecturers who spoke at the congress also cautioned the students against laziness and encouraged them to develop positive attitudes towards their academic work.

They urged the students to remain disciplined, punctual and committed to their studies, noting that academic success requires dedication, consistency and personal responsibility.

The lecturers also advised them to respect the rules and regulations of the college and maintain cordial relationships with their colleagues and members of staff.

Owolabi reiterated the commitment of the college management to providing an enabling environment for teaching, learning and professional development.

She, however, urged the students to reciprocate the efforts by conducting themselves responsibly and using their period of training to build not only academic knowledge but also the character and professional values required of competent nurses.

Responding on behalf of the students, the Students’ Union President, Mr Iyiola Olamilekan, appreciated the Provost and other members of the college management for their guidance, support and commitment to students’ welfare and development.

He assured the management that the students had taken the admonitions in good faith and would work towards complying with the rules and regulations of the institution.

Olamilekan also pledged the students’ cooperation with the management, saying they would continue to uphold the dignity and reputation of the college while pursuing their academic and professional goals.

The congress was attended by the Deputy Provost, Mrs Iyabo Adeleke; the Registrar, Mr Raji Tirimisiyu; the Bursar, Mr Iseoluwa Adedokun; the Librarian, Mrs Grace Adewusi; the Director of Works, Mr Adebowale Olawoyin; as well as faculty members, lecturers and non-academic staff.
