In a significant push to support education in its host communities, Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Dangote Fertiliser Limited have donated school materials worth ₦241 million to thousands of students in Ibeju-Lekki.

The intervention, unveiled during the sixth edition of the Dangote Scholarship Programme, reached a total of 3,704 students across primary and secondary schools, reinforcing the company’s commitment to education and community development.

Beneficiaries include 1,348 primary school pupils from five schools and 2,356 secondary school students across four institutions. The distributed items—ranging from school bags and uniforms to sandals and sanitary materials—are aimed at easing the burden on families while improving students’ learning conditions.

Speaking at the event, the company’s Vice President for Oil and Gas, Edwin Devakumar, emphasized that education remains a powerful tool for societal transformation. He noted that the Dangote Scholarship Programme, launched in 2019, has steadily expanded in scope and impact, supporting hundreds of students annually despite temporary disruptions during the COVID-19 period.

Beyond the distribution of materials, the initiative also includes scholarship opportunities and youth development programmes. According to the company, hundreds of students continue to benefit from annual scholarships, while several young people from the host communities have undergone technical training programmes—some of whom have secured employment within the organisation.

The Executive Chairman of Lekki LCDA, Rasaki Bamidele Kasali, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. Traditional ruler, Oba Kazeem Olumuyiwa Ogunbekun, also praised the company’s sustained commitment to improving lives in the community.

The donation underscores Dangote Group’s broader philosophy that business growth must go hand in hand with community development. By investing in education, the company aims to empower young people, reduce inequality, and build a stronger future for its host communities.

Ultimately, the initiative is not just about providing school supplies—it represents a long-term investment in human capital, giving thousands of students in Ibeju-Lekki a better chance to learn, grow, and succeed.
