The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has recorded a major breakthrough in Ogun State, following a robust sensitisation programme held at the Crownbirth Event Centre, Ijebu-Ife, in Ijebu-East Local Council.

The outreach — facilitated by education advocate Femi Adewumi and hosted by Ijebu-East Local Council Chairman, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde — significantly increased awareness and participation in the NELFUND student loan scheme across the region.

The event drew parents, students, guardians, traditional rulers and education stakeholders, offering practical guidance on how eligible applicants can successfully access the loan.

Adewumi, speaking on the impact of the engagement, said:
“Our goal was simple — to ensure that no student in our communities is left behind because of financial barriers. I am proud of the impact this sensitisation has achieved, and I commend NELFUND for delivering real opportunities to our young people.”

NELFUND has now confirmed that over N785 million has been disbursed to students across three beneficiary institutions in Ogun State for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Managing Director/CEO of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, applauded the collaborative efforts that made the Ijebu-Ife sensitisation exercise successful.

“Our mission is to democratise access to higher education for every Nigerian student, regardless of financial background. The support from community leaders shows what is possible when government institutions and local stakeholders work together,” he said.

Sawyerr added that NELFUND will continue to scale similar engagements across all six geopolitical zones to deepen awareness and streamline access to the loan scheme.

He further acknowledged Adewumi’s pivotal role in driving the sensitisation effort in Ijebu-Ife, saying his contribution significantly enhanced the uptake recorded in Ogun State.
