Two years after his tragic death, the community of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, continues to honour the memory of Mr. Olabode Olawuyi, a devoted Veterinary Technologist at the institutio..

Widely regarded by colleagues and students as a cornerstone of the Zoological Garden, Olawuyi dedicated more than a decade to the care, preservation and management of wildlife within the university facility. Beyond his technical responsibilities, he was celebrated for his mentorship of students and his deep commitment to advancing wildlife conservation on campus.

Renowned for his expertise and calm temperament, Olawuyi played a vital role in maintaining the health and wellbeing of the animals under his supervision. His contributions significantly enriched the hands-on learning experience of students in veterinary medicine and other related disciplines.

Though his life was cut short in the line of duty, members of the university community say his legacy endures within the Zoological Garden and beyond. Staff and students continue to remember him for his courage, professionalism and unwavering dedication to his calling.

The university community has also sustained its support and prayers for his wife and children, acknowledging the profound and lasting impact of his passing.
