Addressing participants at the flag-off, Lagos State Coordinator, Christiana Salmwang, encouraged corps members to fully embrace the programme, describing it as a vital pathway to self-reliance and career growth in today’s competitive economy.
She stressed that SAED is more than just a camp activity—it is a strategic opportunity for corps members to build sustainable careers and reduce dependence on scarce white-collar jobs.
Adding energy to the campaign, NYSC officials, including SAED Head Ehimwenma Itohan, joined corps members in a rally across the camp, displaying placards that promoted entrepreneurship, innovation, and the value of skill acquisition.
In a parallel effort to strengthen financial awareness, KudiMata, in partnership with the NNPC Foundation, hosted a virtual conference themed “A Journey to Self-Actualisation.”
Delivering the keynote, KudiMata’s Managing Director, Kathleen Erhimu, emphasised the importance of disciplined money habits. She urged corps members to cultivate a culture of saving, track their spending, and set clear financial goals early in life.
Erhimu highlighted that true financial independence is built on consistency, discipline, and multiple income streams—encouraging participants to leverage skills gained through SAED to generate additional earnings.
She also cautioned against reckless borrowing and poor budgeting practices, advising corps members to fully understand loan terms before making financial commitments.
On investments, she warned against fraudulent schemes, urging participants to deal only with platforms regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria and other recognised authorities.
To support continued learning, corps members were given access to a free financial literacy course on the KudiMata platform, with certificates awarded upon completion.
Reinforcing the initiative’s importance, Salmwang warned that poor financial habits could have long-term consequences, urging corps members to maximise opportunities provided by SAED.
The programme reflects NYSC’s broader shift toward empowering young Nigerians as job creators rather than job seekers—equipping them with both entrepreneurial skills and financial intelligence needed to thrive in today’s economy.
