The Rowing Ergometer competitions at the 27th Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) Games in Jos produced exceptional displays of strength, endurance, and precision, with standout performances from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) and the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB). The event, held from November 13 to 14, 2025, drew top rowing athletes from across the country under the supervision of Technical Chairman, Fubara Owonaro.
ESUT Dominates With Multiple Gold Medals
ESUT’s team delivered one of the most impressive outings of the regatta, with Flora Edeh emerging as a double champion. She claimed gold in both the Female Heavyweight 1000m (4:03.3) and the Female Heavyweight 500m (1:51.5), cementing her reputation as one of the tournament’s elite rowers.
Her teammate, Ikechukwu Victor, added to the university’s success by powering through the competition to win the Male Heavyweight 1000m with a time of 3:20.0.
ESUT, through these performances, firmly established itself as one of the top rowing forces at NUGA 2025.
NAUB Impresses With Strong Podium Finishes
NAUB also recorded a remarkable showing, led by Kasham Katharine, who stormed to victory in the Female Lightweight 500m event with an impressive time of 1:54.8.
The institution complemented its gold medal with three silvers and one bronze across both lightweight and heavyweight divisions, highlighting the depth and competitiveness of its rowing squad.
FUDMA and JOSTUM Also Make Their Mark
Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) continued its rise in rowing excellence as Sani Umar clinched gold in the Male Lightweight 1000m (3:43.6). FUDMA added three more silver medals in a series of tightly contested races.
Host institution, the University of Jos (JOSTUM), delivered a strong home performance. Tyonkaa Eben Rer secured gold in the Male Lightweight 2000m with a fast finish of 7:56. The school also added multiple silver and bronze medals through athletes including Jennifer Asoo and Owole Alice, both of whom earned podium finishes in their respective categories.
