The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a public warning to students and members of the public over a circulating message falsely claiming that the registration portal for the 2026 student loan application has been opened.
In a statement shared through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the agency clarified that the message, which includes a suspicious application link, is false and misleading, urging students to disregard it entirely.
NELFUND explained that the link being circulated online does not belong to any of its official platforms and warned prospective applicants not to engage with such websites. According to the agency, clicking on unverified links or submitting personal information through unofficial portals could expose individuals to fraud and identity theft.
The Fund emphasised that all authentic updates concerning the student loan scheme will only be released through its verified communication channels. It therefore urged students and other stakeholders to remain vigilant and confirm information before acting on messages that appear urgent or encourage widespread sharing.
The warning comes as the Federal Government continues implementing the student loan initiative, a programme designed to expand access to higher education and provide financial support to eligible Nigerian students.
NELFUND reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in the administration of the scheme, advising students to rely strictly on its official platforms for accurate and timely information regarding applications and updates.
