NAPS Launches Digital Platform to Promote Transparency in Student Union Finances

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has unveiled a new digital payment platform aimed at tackling financial mismanagement and improving transparency in student union administration across tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The platform, known as Paytogeda CampusPay, was introduced as part of efforts to modernise financial operations within student unions and ensure greater accountability in the management of students’ funds.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony held in Ibadan, Oyo State, leaders of the association described the initiative as a major reform designed to restore trust and credibility in student governance. The platform will enable students to pay union dues, levies, and other charges through a secure digital channel where transactions can be tracked and verified.

According to the Senate President of NAPS, Ayomide Oyewumi, the introduction of the digital platform marks a turning point in the management of student union finances. He explained that the system would eliminate the long-standing concerns about financial opacity and irregularities often associated with campus leadership.

Oyewumi noted that all financial transactions carried out through the platform would be transparent and easily traceable, allowing student leaders to generate verifiable financial reports whenever necessary. He added that the move signals a new era in which accountability and transparency would become standard practices within student unions nationwide.

Beyond the payment of union dues, the platform is also expected to support a range of campus financial activities, including departmental payments, event ticketing, and other student-related transactions.

The Chief Executive Officer of the payment solution, Aderogba Odepode, explained that the innovation was designed to simplify financial coordination within student communities while eliminating disputes and confusion surrounding payment processes.

Education stakeholders present at the launch commended the initiative, describing it as a landmark step toward strengthening governance and accountability in student unionism. They expressed optimism that the adoption of digital financial systems would significantly reduce cases of fraud and mismanagement within student organisations.

Observers also noted that the introduction of digital payment infrastructure in campus administration aligns with global best practices in institutional governance and financial transparency.

With the rollout of the platform, NAPS has encouraged student unions across polytechnics in Nigeria to adopt the system in order to promote financial discipline, build trust among students, and strengthen the credibility of student leadership structures.
