The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has passed a vote of no confidence in the Head of the National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Dr. Amos Dangut, and is demanding his immediate removal along with key members of the council’s management.
This resolution was unanimously adopted during the 87th NANS National Senate Sitting and Congress, held at Yobe State University, Damaturu, Yobe State.
The students’ union cited widespread dissatisfaction with WAEC’s leadership following the release of the 2025 English Language examination results, which recorded an alarming rate of failure. According to NANS, the examination process was riddled with irregularities, including late-night testing sessions, suspected serialization issues, gross mismanagement, and allegations of malpractice facilitated by some WAEC officials.
In response to these concerns, NANS had earlier called for a resit of the English Language paper to ensure credibility and fairness. However, WAEC’s outright rejection of that request, coupled with its inconsistent result dissemination — with various percentages released within 48 hours — has deepened tensions.
Speaking after the Senate sitting, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, Director of Administration and Planning at the NANS National Headquarters, described the mass failure as a calculated attempt to sabotage the academic future of Nigerian students.
> “The release of inconsistent results within such a short timeframe is not only unprofessional but smacks of institutional misconduct. This cannot be overlooked,” Uthman stated.
He further announced that NANS will stage a **nationwide protest** to press for the dismissal of Dr. Dangut, urging the Federal Ministry of Education to intervene promptly.
> “Nigerian students deserve transparency, fairness, and a credible evaluation system. Until our demands are met, NANS will not stand down,” Uthman asserted.
NANS reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the academic interests of Nigerian students and vowed to sustain pressure until accountability is ensured within WAEC.
