In a bold move to bridge Nigeria’s widening education gap, Miva Open University has unveiled its Port Harcourt Study Centre, further advancing its mission to provide flexible, technology-driven learning opportunities to Nigerians unable to access traditional university education.

The new facility, equipped with reliable internet, constant power supply, quiet study areas, and collaborative spaces, is designed to support learners facing persistent challenges such as erratic electricity and poor connectivity.

According to the university, the Port Harcourt Centre will serve as a one-stop hub where students can take examinations, receive academic and admissions support, and participate in workshops, study sessions, and student community events.

Speaking at the official launch, the Vice Chancellor of Miva Open University, Prof. Tayo Arulogun, urged students to make full use of the centre’s resources to enhance their academic experience.

“Take ownership of this study centre and maximise the facilities the university has made available to support your learning,” Arulogun said. “We also expect you to uphold the institution’s values and represent Miva with pride wherever you go.”

Representing the uLesson Group Chief Executive Officer and Chancellor of Miva Open University, Oladipo Olugbemi, he described Rivers State as one of the university’s most vibrant learning communities.

“Rivers State ranks third in our student enrolment—a clear testament to the appetite for knowledge, innovation, and progress that defines the people of Rivers,” Olugbemi said. “This centre is our way of saying thank you for believing in Miva’s vision of accessible, high-quality, and technology-driven tertiary education. We are deepening our partnership with Riverians and reaffirming our belief that education must meet people where they are.”

Licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2023, Miva Open University offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including Business Management, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Nursing, Public Health, and Mass Communication, as well as MBA, MPA, MPH, and MIT degrees.

Founded by the uLesson Group, Miva’s hybrid learning model enables students, working professionals, parents, and entrepreneurs to pursue higher education at their own pace, blending the flexibility of online learning with the engagement of physical study centres.

With the opening of the Port Harcourt Study Centre, Miva continues to position itself as a leading force in redefining accessible, inclusive, and future-ready tertiary education in Nigeria.
