A Lagos-based lawyer, Ifeanyi Ezeogba, has charged students to reject shortcuts to success and instead commit to hard work, discipline, and purposeful living.
Ezeogba gave the counsel while chairing the 28th valedictory service and graduation ceremony of Ronik Comprehensive School, Ejigbo, Lagos.
He urged the graduating class to surround themselves with positive influences, guard their values, and remain hungry for knowledge. “Avoid shortcuts. Stay hungry for knowledge. And above all, find your purpose,” he advised, adding that fear of failure should never deter them from pursuing their goals.
“Life beyond these walls will stretch and challenge you in ways you have never known. There will be moments of triumph and also moments of self-doubt. Do not be afraid of failure; it is one of life’s most honest teachers. What matters most is how you respond,” Ezeogba told the students.
Commending their resilience, he noted that the day marked a celebration of their courage and perseverance through academic challenges, late-night studies, exam pressures, and social hurdles.
In her address, the principal, Mrs. Victoria Duru, described Ronik Comprehensive School as an institution dedicated to producing well-rounded students through a balanced blend of academics, sports, and languages.
“We produce students who are not just ambassadors of the school, but ambassadors of Nigeria. They have excelled in their UTME exams, with many set to gain easy admission into universities,” she said.
Valedictorian Ben-Amu Victor expressed gratitude for the moral values and guidance received during their six-year journey. “Ronik has been a second home to us. They shaped us into who we are, guided and believed in us even when we doubted ourselves,” he said.
The ceremony also featured award presentations to students who distinguished themselves academically.
