The Lagos State University (LASU) has commenced the refund of tuition fees to students who had earlier paid for the 2025/2026 academic session but later secured financial support through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

The university confirmed that the refunds are being processed following the disbursement of approved student loans under the federal government’s NELFUND programme, which is designed to ease the financial burden on students in tertiary institutions.

According to the institution, the refunds apply specifically to students whose NELFUND loan applications were approved after they had already paid their tuition fees for the current academic session. The university explained that affected students will receive their refunds directly into their personal bank accounts.

LASU also advised eligible students to regularly check both their bank accounts and the NELFUND portal for updates regarding the refund process.

The institution noted that all tuition payments for the 2025/2026 academic session are processed through its official student portal. It further clarified that any request for cancellation of fees or irregular payments must be formally submitted to the Vice-Chancellor and may attract an administrative charge if approved.

Under the university’s current fee structure, tuition varies depending on the level and programme of study. For instance, 200-level students pay between ₦27,000 and ₦90,000, while fees for students in higher levels range from ₦17,415 to ₦75,500.

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund initiative, introduced by the Federal Government, aims to expand access to higher education by providing financial assistance to students through tuition support and other forms of funding.

Education stakeholders say the refund process reflects growing coordination between tertiary institutions and the NELFUND scheme, which seeks to reduce financial barriers and ensure that students are not forced to bear unnecessary costs after securing loan support.
