In a strategic move to enhance teaching and learning in public schools, the Lagos State Government has partnered with the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Alumni Association of Nigeria and the United States Consulate to train 50 senior secondary school teachers from Educational District 6 on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in education.
The two-day capacity-building workshop, held in Lagos, is aimed at equipping teachers with practical skills in AI, robotics, and innovative digital tools to improve classroom delivery and boost student outcomes.
Speaking at the event, the General Secretary of the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Alumni Association, Mr. Iyke Chukwu, said the initiative is part of efforts to modernize teaching methods in line with global trends.
“Our goal is to empower these teachers with the competencies to leverage Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies to enrich the learning experience,” Chukwu stated. “Technology is reshaping every sector, and education must not be left behind. If other industries are reaping the benefits of digital transformation, it's time our classrooms do the same.”
Chukwu emphasized that the program is designed as a "train-the-trainer" model, where the participating teachers are expected to replicate the knowledge gained in their respective schools, thus multiplying its impact across the state.
He described the workshop as a one-time intervention with long-term benefits, noting that the initiative would significantly elevate the quality of instruction and learning outcomes in Lagos schools.
“This is not just a training — it is a catalyst for a wider transformation in our educational system,” he added.
The AI training underscores Lagos State’s continued investment in digital literacy and its commitment to preparing teachers and students for the demands of a technology-driven future.
