The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has ordered immediate compliance checks and inspections of schools across the state as part of efforts to ensure a smooth and safe resumption for the third academic term.
The directive, issued by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, comes ahead of the official resumption date of May 4, 2026, for all public and private primary and secondary schools, including Government Technical Colleges, in line with the approved academic calendar.
According to a statement released via the state government’s official communication channels, inspection teams will be deployed across Lagos to assess schools’ compliance with established standards. These include safety protocols, environmental sanitation, availability of learning facilities, and punctual resumption of both staff and students.
School administrators have been directed to resume promptly, maintain accurate records, and ensure that teaching and learning activities commence immediately to prevent disruption to the academic schedule.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards in the education sector. She emphasized that adherence to safety and sanitation guidelines remains a top priority for the state.
The government also called on key stakeholders—including school proprietors, teachers, and parents—to support ongoing efforts aimed at fostering a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment for the new term.
Education analysts note that the proactive inspections reflect Lagos State’s continued push to strengthen quality assurance and safeguard student welfare across its rapidly expanding school system.
