The Kwara State Government has released the results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), indicating remarkable progress in student performance and an encouraging rise in enrolment, particularly among female candidates.
In a statement issued in Ilorin on Monday, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, attributed the positive outcomes to the sustained investments of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration in the state’s education sector.
According to him, enrolment for the BECE increased by 27 percent between 2019 and 2025, rising from 45,761 to 57,787 candidates. Female participation also recorded a slight but steady improvement, climbing from 47.89 percent to 48.33 percent within the same period.
“Between 2019 and 2025, the BECE has witnessed sustained growth and gradual gains in equity,” Olohungbebe said. “In 2025 alone, enrolment grew from 56,508 in 2024 to 57,787, while attendance improved across most subjects.”
The commissioner highlighted notable improvements in pass rates for core subjects: Mathematics (+2.23 percentage points), English (+2.94 pp), National Values (+4.51 pp), History (+3.72 pp), and Pre-Vocational Studies (+3.33 pp). Average scores in these subjects also showed upward trends, reflecting overall progress in learning outcomes.
“These results demonstrate that not only are more candidates sitting for the examination, but a growing number are excelling,” he stated. “The system is clearly moving in the right direction.”
Olohungbebe announced that results will be available for collection at the Ministry of Education from Thursday, September 11, 2025, at no cost. He cautioned principals against extorting students, emphasizing that “collection of results and scratch cards for checking are entirely free.”
