The Katsina State Government has announced plans to introduce a special allowance package for teachers deployed to rural communities as part of efforts to address manpower shortages in hard-to-reach areas.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, **Hajiya Zainab Musa-Musawa**, disclosed this at a one-day education summit in Katsina on Tuesday. The summit was organised in collaboration with **Save the Children International** and **GoalPrime Nigeria**, with funding support from **Education Cannot Wait**.

Represented by the Director of Senior Schools in the ministry, **Hajiya Raliya Yusuf**, the Commissioner explained that the allowance would be a percentage of the teachers’ salaries, designed to serve as an incentive for those posted to underserved communities, including areas facing mild security challenges.

“It is worrisome that many teachers prefer to remain in urban centres, leaving rural schools under-staffed. This allowance is expected to encourage them to accept postings outside the cities,” she said.

Musa-Musawa added that the ministry is committed to ensuring that every child in the state has access to quality education, regardless of location. She expressed optimism that the new policy would help bridge the gap between urban and rural education delivery.

The summit, held to commemorate the **International Day to Protect Education from Attack**, carried the theme: *“Challenging Narratives, Reshaping Action.”*
