The Katsina State Government has approved the disbursement of ₦372.05 million as bursary allowances for 24,452 continuing students across the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Scholarship Board, Dr. Aminu Salisu Tsauri, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, describing it as a reflection of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s commitment to student welfare and human capital development.
Figures released by the board indicate that the latest approval adds to a series of interventions in recent years. A breakdown shows:
* ₦637.92 million was disbursed to 47,935 students in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions.
* ₦544.20 million went to 37,802 students in the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 sessions.
* ₦744.10 million was allocated to 50,438 students in the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 sessions.
With the new approval, the total number of beneficiaries has risen to 174,461 students over a four-year period.
Looking ahead, the government plans to extend bursary support to 12,609 new students in the 2024/2025 academic session. It will also introduce a **State Award of Academic Excellence** and a **Special Scholarship Scheme for Students with Disabilities**, both to be unveiled at an upcoming flag-off ceremony.
Beyond local scholarships, Governor Radda’s administration has also funded Katsina indigenes to study abroad in specialised fields such as Artificial Intelligence at Xi’an Shiyou University, China; Bioengineering at Xuzhou University of Technology, China; and Medicine at Nahda University, Egypt.
Dr. Tsauri assured that arrangements are underway to ensure a smooth and timely disbursement of the new bursary tranche, stressing that the initiative is designed to ease students’ financial burdens and expand access to education.
Education stakeholders in Katsina have consistently maintained that bursary support reduces dropout rates, particularly among students from low-income families, while reinforcing the government’s broader agenda of peace, stability, and sustainable development.
