The Kano State Ministry of Education has dispatched 618 indigenes of the state to schools across 15 northern states under the Northern States School Exchange Programme as the first term of the 2026/2027 academic session begins.
The students, comprising returning students and newly admitted pupils, were assembled at Rumfa College, Kano, before embarking on their journeys to their respective schools.
To ensure their safety, the ministry assigned official escorts to each group to accompany the students and oversee their safe arrival at their various destinations.
Speaking during the exercise, the Permanent Secretary of the Kano State Ministry of Education, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad, commended members of the School Exchange Programme Committee and other officials for their commitment and effective coordination of the exercise.
He also appreciated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his support for the programme and other initiatives aimed at improving access to quality education for students in the state.
Muhammad urged the students to remain focused on their studies, obey the rules and regulations of their respective schools and conduct themselves as good ambassadors of Kano State.
He wished them a successful academic session and assured them of the ministry’s continued support throughout their educational journey.
Also speaking, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation and Chairman of the School Exchange Programme Committee, Auwal Mustapha Muhammad, urged the students, particularly newly admitted JSS 1 pupils, to take their studies seriously and make the most of the opportunities provided through the programme.
He also called on parents and guardians to maintain regular communication with their children and the schools to monitor their academic progress and wellbeing.
According to Muhammad, the School Exchange Programme is designed to give Kano students access to quality education while broadening their educational experiences through placement in selected schools across northern Nigeria.
He expressed appreciation to parents, school authorities, escorts, committee members and other stakeholders for their cooperation and contributions towards the successful commencement of the students’ journey to their various schools.
