The Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State, has announced a 100 per cent waiver of tuition and other school fees for newly admitted students of B.Sc Mathematics and B.Sc Physics.

The Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State, has announced a 100 per cent waiver of tuition and other school fees for newly admitted students of B.Sc Mathematics and B.Sc Physics.

The university said the initiative was introduced to promote science education, attract more students to core science disciplines and help address the shortage of skilled professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences (STEMM).

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the University Registrar, Mrs Fatima Muhammad, and made available to journalists on Wednesday.

According to the university management, STEMM disciplines are critical to national development, but Nigeria continues to face a shortage of qualified personnel in the sciences.

“To address this gap, the Management of the Federal University of Technology, Babura has approved a waiver of school fees for candidates admitted into the B.Sc Mathematics and B.Sc Physics programmes,” the statement said.

The registrar described the policy as a community service initiative designed to make science education more accessible, particularly to students from northern Nigeria and other underserved communities.

She explained that beneficiaries would enjoy a full waiver of tuition and school fees throughout the duration of their programmes.

“Beneficiaries will enjoy 100% waiver of tuition and school fees,” Muhammad stated.

The university said the initiative would also help boost enrolment in Mathematics and Physics, which often attract fewer students despite their importance to scientific research, technological development and innovation.

Prospective students who initially selected other programmes or institutions may also benefit, provided they meet the university’s admission requirements.

The registrar advised interested candidates to change their institution and course choices to the Federal University of Technology, Babura through any JAMB Computer-Based Test centre.

“Interested and eligible candidates are advised to effect a change of institution and course to FUT, Babura at any JAMB CBT Centre,” she said.

Muhammad said the initiative was in line with broader efforts to strengthen STEMM education and produce graduates capable of contributing to research, teaching and industrial development.

She, however, urged prospective beneficiaries to contact the university’s admissions office for further information, guidance on the change-of-course process and confirmation of their eligibility.

The university further encouraged qualified candidates to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that the fee waiver applies to the current admission cycle.
