Governor Umar Namadi has declared that sustained investment in education by the Jigawa State Government is beginning to deliver measurable gains, particularly in the basic education sub-sector.
The governor made this known on Sunday while presiding over a basic education stakeholders’ roundtable at the Government House in Dutse. The high-level meeting was convened to assess progress, identify challenges and explore new opportunities within the state’s basic education framework.
The session drew participation from top officials of the Ministry of Education and its affiliated agencies, development partners and other critical stakeholders. It was coordinated by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in collaboration with the Office of the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Basic Education.
During the roundtable, presentations were delivered by government institutions, non-governmental organisations and donor agencies, outlining ongoing interventions, achievements and collaborative efforts aimed at expanding access to education, strengthening teaching quality and improving learning outcomes across the state.
Governor Namadi expressed satisfaction with the deliberations, noting that the presentations underscored tangible progress resulting from increased government spending and sustained partner support. According to him, the synergy between the state government and development partners is becoming increasingly evident in improved educational indicators.
He commended donor agencies for their commitment and reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to deepen collaboration. The governor assured partners of a conducive operational environment to enable them contribute effectively to the state’s educational development agenda.
Namadi further pledged that recommendations emerging from the roundtable would be thoroughly reviewed and integrated into the state’s education planning and policy framework where feasible.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Lawal Yunusa Danzomo, described the meeting as a strategic convergence of all departments and institutions involved in education data management and service delivery. He emphasised that sustainable improvements in education require collective responsibility and a shared vision to ensure that every child in Jigawa State enrols in school, remains in school and completes their education.
Danzomo revealed that recent assessments indicate marked progress in access, pupil retention, transition and completion rates. He also highlighted gains in teacher recruitment, deployment, training and performance, attributing the improvements to the governor’s political will and the enabling environment fostered by the current administration.
Development partners present at the meeting included UNICEF, Islamic Development Bank, Save the Children, as well as PLANE and AGILE, among others.
