Abuja – July 17, 2025 — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered 9,460 illegal admissions across 20 tertiary institutions in Nigeria for the 2024 academic session.
According to a list obtained from JAMB, these admissions were carried out outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) — the only approved platform for processing admissions in Nigeria.
Kano State University of Science and Technology topped the list with 2,215 fake admissions, followed by Ladoke Akintola University of Technology with 1,215, and Gombe State University with 1,164.
Other institutions implicated include Emmanuel Alayande University of Education (761), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (534), Ambrose Alli University (514), Igbinedion University (365), and several polytechnics and colleges of health.
CAPS was introduced by JAMB to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability in the admission process. It allows prospective students to track and manage their admission status online, ensuring that candidates are considered based on merit and institutional criteria.
JAMB reiterated that any admission processed outside CAPS is illegal, and affected students risk ineligibility for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed this position at the 2025 JAMB policy meeting in Abuja, warning that institutions and individuals involved in such unlawful practices would face prosecution and sanctions.
“Any admission conducted outside CAPS, regardless of its intentions, is illegal,” Alausa stated.
The board has vowed to continue clamping down on erring institutions to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
