Abuja, Nigeria – February 3, 2026 — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has temporarily suspended the option for candidates in Ekiti State to choose their preferred examination towns as part of the ongoing registration for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the examination body explained that the pause is intended to enable officials to review and reconfigure the existing network of examination towns in Ekiti. The goal, the board said, is to ensure that centres are situated closer to where candidates live, reducing travel costs and logistical challenges on exam days.
Benjamin noted that while candidates are typically permitted to select examination towns nearest to their locations, the 2026 registration process had started before JAMB identified structural irregularities in the arrangement of towns within the state. These anomalies, he said, necessitated urgent adjustments in the best interest of the candidates.
“As a result of the identified issues, candidates will be unable to select any examination town in Ekiti State while the adjustment process is ongoing,” the board said, adding that the exercise is expected to be completed shortly.
JAMB expressed regret for any inconvenience the temporary measure may cause candidates in Ekiti, assuring the public of its commitment to continuously monitor and improve operational processes to ensure a fair, accessible examination experience for all applicants.
Candidates affected by the suspension have been advised to keep track of official updates from JAMB regarding when town selection will resume.
