The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has inaugurated a 23-member Special Committee to investigate technology-driven malpractices uncovered during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Speaking at the inauguration yesterday in Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, expressed concern over the rising sophistication of examination fraud, disclosing that the results of 6,458 candidates are currently under scrutiny for alleged involvement in advanced cheating schemes.

“This year, we came across some strange things, and we felt it would be better to expand our resources. We believe that God has endowed this nation with a lot of capable people that we can tap from,” Oloyede stated.

He explained that malpractice had moved beyond traditional methods into *“technologically sophisticated forms”* involving biometric manipulation and identity fraud, some of which were allegedly facilitated by accredited CBT centres in connivance with candidates.

While 141 conventional cases of malpractice have been forwarded to JAMB’s disciplinary committee, the new panel will handle what Oloyede described as “extraordinary infractions.” These include image blending, falsification of albinism status, finger pairing, and attempts to compromise Local Area Networks in CBT centres.

The committee’s terms of reference include probing all cases of image manipulation, biometric tampering, false claims of albinism, and result falsification; identifying methods, tools, and patterns of fraud; reviewing JAMB’s existing registration and examination policies; and recommending reforms.

The panel has three weeks to submit its report.
