The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), began nationwide on Thursday, April 24, with smooth operations reported across Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers.
Over 2 million candidates—precisely 2,030,627—are taking part in this year’s examination, which is being conducted in about 700 CBT centers across Nigeria. The exam will run until April 30.
Supervisors at multiple centers praised the seamless conduct of the test. At Lavogue British International School CBT Centre in Kurudu, the Centre Administrator, Ubammadu Akwuruoha, commended the punctuality of candidates and confirmed there were no technical issues.
In Niger State, Emmanuel Ehikwe, owner of Airmax Computer Institute in Madalla, reported a high turnout and said the exam kicked off right on schedule at 8:00 a.m.
Salihu Mustapha, a JAMB-accredited supervisor at Rosa Mystica Academy, also applauded the early arrival of candidates, which contributed to a hitch-free process. According to him, Thursday featured two sessions, while Friday and Saturday are expected to host three and four sessions, respectively.
At Ade-Ola International Schools CBT Centre in Kubwa, supervisor Dr. Aminu Abdullahi praised both JAMB and the center’s administration for their efficiency. He noted better punctuality and candidate compliance compared to previous years.
Candidates themselves expressed satisfaction. Adams George, a first-time test-taker at the Ade-Ola centre, said, “We started at 8 a.m. The examination went on smoothly. My computer didn’t malfunction. There were no technical issues.”
However, a few parents voiced concerns about the early start times, particularly for candidates traveling from distant locations. Shaibu Peter suggested pushing the start time to 8:00 or 8:30 a.m. to help ease early-morning stress. Another parent, Ijeoma Joseph, shared that her family had to sleep near the exam center to avoid lateness.
JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, announced that results would be released after the examination concludes. He added that by Monday, about 90% of registered candidates would have completed their tests.
