ABUJA — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the 2025 admissions deadline for public universities across Nigeria from October 31 to November 17, 2025, following appeals and recent developments affecting admission processes nationwide.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, JAMB explained that the decision was made to give universities additional time to conclude their admission exercises in light of emerging circumstances.

The Board recalled that during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held on July 18, 2025, and chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, the original deadline was set for October 31. However, JAMB said the new extension was prompted by two key factors — a formal appeal from the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) and the recent accreditation of new programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

“AVCNU has specially appealed for an extension due to the disruption caused by a number of factors, including a court order directing that the status quo should remain on the 2025/2026 admission list, which was only lifted by the same court on 28th October 2025,” the statement said.

JAMB further noted that the NUC’s accreditation of 229 new programmes across 37 universities on October 29, 2025, required additional time for the inclusion of these courses in ongoing admission processes.

“In a bid to expand access in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the NUC released a list of newly accredited programmes for 37 universities. Admission into those programmes is just being scheduled,” the Board added.

Commending the cooperation and diligence of public universities in meeting the earlier target, JAMB emphasized that the extension was granted to ensure fairness, inclusivity, and efficiency in the 2025 admission cycle.

While reaffirming its commitment to a transparent and credible admissions process, the Board warned that November 17, 2025, remains the final deadline, urging all institutions to adhere strictly to the new date.
