The management of Greensprings School, Lagos, has explained why one of its campuses closed early on January 22, 2026, amid widespread security concerns affecting schools in parts of the state. The school said the decision was a precautionary measure, not a direct response to any threat against its premises.
In a statement issued by the school’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chukwuemeka Anyiam-Osigwe, Greensprings clarified that only its Anthony Campus shut down early that day due to its proximity to other schools that had received security threat messages, while its other campuses continued normal academic activities.
Contrary to earlier reports suggesting a blanket closure, the school maintained that no security threat was ever issued directly to Greensprings. The management stressed that decisions about campus operations are location-specific and guided by internal safety assessments.
“Greensprings School was not one of the schools that received any security threat,” the statement said, adding that the early closure of the Anthony Campus was based solely on its proximity to affected schools.
The clarification comes amid heightened concerns after a number of elite schools in Lagos, including institutions in the Ikeja area, temporarily suspended activities following threat messages from unknown sources. Security agencies, including the Lagos State Police Command, have since been deployed to several campuses as part of precautionary measures.
Greensprings assured parents and stakeholders that safety remains a top priority and emphasised that its other campuses, such as Awoyaya, operated without interruption on the day in question.
