Gov. Alia Appoints Prof. Emmanuel Kenen as Acting Vice Chancellor of Rev. Fr. Moses Adasu University, Makurdi

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has approved the appointment of Professor Emmanuel Kenen as the Acting Vice Chancellor of Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, and shared via the state government’s official X handle on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the appointment follows the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council, which nominated Prof. Kenen to serve in an acting capacity for a period not exceeding six months, in line with the law establishing the institution as contained in Gazette No. 3, Vol. 45, Part III, 16 (11 & 12).

Governor Alia, who is the Visitor to the university, congratulated the new acting Vice Chancellor and charged him to uphold the institution’s core values of excellence, discipline, innovation, and moral integrity.

“The university must continue to stand as a beacon of knowledge and character formation, producing graduates who will contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Benue State and Nigeria at large,” the governor said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning tertiary education in the state for global competitiveness through investments in infrastructure, staff welfare, and research development.

Formerly known as Benue State University, the institution was established in 1991 and commenced academic activities in the 1992/93 session with four pioneer faculties — Arts, Education, Science, and Social Sciences. It was later renamed Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM) in honour of the late priest and former governor, Rev. Fr. Moses Adasu, who governed Benue State between 1992 and 1993.
